Meet Karen

Karen's creative journey began at the North Adelaide School of Arts, where she studied for her Diploma of Visual Arts. She then went on to university and spent twenty years as a primary school teacher across South Australia.

Teaching and creativity have always gone hand in hand for Karen. She loves finding ways to make learning hands-on, engaging and creative — including through art and basket weaving.

Today, Karen brings that same passion for teaching and creativity to Raffia & Twine, sharing her love of raffia weaving through beautiful materials, basket-making kits and relaxed, hands-on workshops.

At the heart of Raffia & Twine is a simple belief: Everyone can create.

Whether you're learning your first stitch, making your first basket, or simply enjoying time spent creating something by hand, Karen aims to make raffia weaving accessible, enjoyable, and inspiring.

Based in the Adelaide Hills, Raffia & Twine celebrates natural materials, creativity, connection and the simple pleasure of making something yourself.
